Digital Wallet

Fast. Convenient. Secure.

Ever need to pay for something, but forgot your wallet? Looking to declutter your pocket or purse? Want a little more security for your financial data? A digital wallet can help.

Sometimes called e-wallets, mobile wallets or virtual wallets, digital wallets are a modern way to pay in-store and online. Simply add your credit card to your digital wallet app, and you can start making payments with your smartphone, smartwatch and other mobile devices.

How a Digital Wallet Works

Most modern devices that are compatible with digital wallets come with the service installed. For example, iPhones® come with Apple Pay® and many Android™ phones come with Google Pay™.

Note: Some older or lower priced models may not come with a digital wallet installed because they don’t have the near-field communication (NFC) technology needed to make wireless payments.

Open the digital wallet app on your device to add your card. The exact process is different per digital wallet and is detailed below.

After you’ve added a card and you’ve selected it as your default payment method, you’re ready to use your digital wallet. When you’re in a store, look for a contactless reader or the logo of your digital wallet app. Then, unlock your device and hold it close to the payment terminal. Your device may request your authorization with a PIN, passcode, etc. You’ll then follow any prompts from the terminal.
