Honda Federal Credit Union has a number of options to help you meet your retirement or education savings goals. And with their tax advantages*, we can help you get there even faster than you thought:
-
Traditional IRA* — Contributions and earnings are not taxed until withdrawal.
The maximum contribution per year is $5,000, but you can add an extra $1,000

-
Roth IRA** — Contributions are non-tax deductible. In exchange, members with an
account that has been open for at least five tax years can qualify for tax-free withdrawals
(including earnings) if one of these conditions is met: owner is at least 59½ years old,
the death or disability of the IRA holder, or receipt of a qualified first-time home buyer
distribution. The maximum contribution per year is $5,000, but you can add an extra $1,000 if you are at least 50 years old.**

eRefunds – Using the Correct Data
It’s tax season, and in today’s age of technology, e-filing your taxes and receiving a direct deposit of your refund into your account is becoming a popular demand.
Whether you file your income taxes electronically or by mail, you still have the option of Direct Deposit of your refund. We find that many members make errors when providing their account information to the IRS.
Here are a few tips to assist you:

- Item b above: Routing Number – the 9-digit routing number can be found on the bottom left-hand corner of your checks, as part of the MICR number. (MICR, Magnetic Ink Character Recognition strips are used by the U.S. banking system to automate check processing.) The routing number for Honda Federal Credit Union is 322275746. (Keep in mind, this information can also be used in establishing Internet Bill Payment services through Honda FCU).
- Item c above: Type - select either Checking or Savings. Should you elect to have your refund deposited into your Money Market account, you would select checking. (Please note: direct deposit of your tax refund into a secondary savings account is not permitted.)
- Item d above: Account Number – if you’ve elected to have your direct deposit posted to your savings account, you will enter the 10-digit master account number displayed on the upper right-hand corner of your statement. If you elect to have your refund deposited to your checking or Money Market account, use the 11-digit checking account number located next to the routing number on your checks, as illustrated below

Many members continue to use the 10- digit main Membership Account Number (which starts with a 76*** or 78***). While this number is used to identify your account within Internet Banking or Audrey Automated Teller, this 10-digit membership account number is a default to your savings account. If you have used this number in the past and you have not updated your account information, you should update it with your tax agency or you may experience delays or your tax refund may be returned back to the agency. This information also applies to all ACH debits and credits.
Should you have additional questions regarding which numbers to use, please stop by your local HFCU branch or call us at 1.800.63.Honda (1.800.634.6632).

WHY Leave Yourself Unprotected? - Protect your computer from being targeted or hijacked with antivirus and anti malware software. By protecting your computer you can prevent computer thieves from accessing personal information.
What is a Computer Virus?
A Computer Virus is a program that can copy itself and infect a computer without the permission or knowledge of the user. A computer virus has 2 major characteristics: the ability to replicate itself, and the ability to attach itself to another computer file. Every file or program that becomes infected can also act as a virus itself, allowing it to spread to other files and computers.
A computer virus needs another program in order to be able to be activated and infect other computers files. Essentially, a computer virus rides piggyback on another file into your computer - once it is executed, the virus will continue to replicate and attach itself to other program files and continue to spread. The following are a few telltale signs that your computer might have a virus:
- Slow response and slow program execution
- Random hard drive crashes and restarts
- Distorted graphics and text
- Files that have mysteriously vanished
- Extensive pop-up ads
- Inability to open files with existing passwords
What is "malware" (malicious software programs)? At its most basic definition, malware is when software programs covertly install themselves on your computer, and then perform operations without your permission. Once in place, malware programs may do hundreds of nasty things to your computer. Malware will log your keystrokes, steal your passwords, observe your browsing choices, spawn pop-up windows, send you targeted email, redirect your web browser to phishing pages, report your personal information to distant servers, and serve up pornography. Malware operates invisibly, often without displaying itself in your Task Manager. To top it off, malware usually refuses to be uninstalled through your control panel, and requires special tools to delete them from your drive. Yes, this is a direct cousin to viruses, but with a broader portfolio of wicked intentions.
Purchase or download anti-virus/anti-malware programs that run as you boot or work on your computer. Update the software and run scans frequently if not daily. New viruses and malware are created everyday and by keeping your anti-virus/anti-malware software programs up to date you can prevent them from infecting your computer and stealing important information.
